Paris has a particular kind of patisserie that stops you mid-stride. The windows alone, the regal cases, the sense that whatever is inside is worth slowing down for.
 
I drew this one from a cafe across the street. My travel companion sat with me the way he does, brought food and wine, carried on conversations with whoever wandered by, made introductions, kept the world at a comfortable distance while I worked. At night the arrangement reverses and I follow him into his world of music. It works.
 
The line drawing took six hours. The painting took seventy-two. It is priced the way it is because these pieces are made from joy first, and joy doesn't invoice the same way.
