Fleeting culture
The Scarcity series was shown in Paris in 2023 as part of a community initiative bringing original art, affordable food and live music to a small Parisian club recovering after COVID. The work addressed food scarcity as both concept and lived reality, in the room and on the walls simultaneously.
Fleeting Culture
Remote and northern communities across Canada still live predominantly subsistence lifestyles, the way their ancestors did. That way of life is being squeezed from three directions at once, traditional food sources migrating due to climate change, commercial food remaining unaffordable and nutritionally poor, and a political voice too small to force the changes needed. This piece is about what gets lost when a culture's relationship to food is severed, quietly and without acknowledgement.
