I was stood up in Budapest. Instead of going home I went walking and found a secret garden.
 
This painting came from that day, and from the ongoing argument between the part of me that knows better and the part that goes anyway. The figure holds his heart and his brain externally because that conflict isn't internal, it's something you carry visibly whether you want to or not.
 
The figure is greyscale deliberately. This is the first in a series where the human recedes and the world around them saturates with colour. We are not the point. The garden is the point. The threshold between the two is not a wall, it's a curve, an invitation.
 
If I hadn't put my heart out there despite every reasonable objection, I would never have found that garden. That's the whole painting.
