Sugar cube

The Scarcity series was shown in Paris in 2023 as part of a community initiative bringing original art, affordable food and live music to a small Parisian club recovering after COVID. The work addressed food scarcity as both concept and lived reality, in the room and on the walls simultaneously.

One of the longer term psychological effects of food scarcity that doesn't get talked about enough — anxiety, hoarding, obsession. When food has been scarce, the brain doesn't forget. It stockpiles, restricts, places certain foods on a pedestal. The sugar cube isn't just sugar. It's what happens to a mind that learned early that there might not be enough.
